Fitness Industry Code of Practice - Western Australia


You will need to comply with this code if you intend to provide fitness services.

This code aims to increase public confidence in fitness centres and other fitness suppliers by establishing mandatory standards of conduct across the industry. It applies to owners and franchisees of fitness centres.

Code of Practice

A code of practice is a set of rules which details how people in a certain industry should behave. A code of practice can be defined as a result of legislation or by industry regulators and bodies.


This code does not apply to:

  • registered doctors
  • registered physiotherapists
  • sports training provided by a sporting club
  • a school fitness facility or gym which provides fitness services to staff or students only
  • businesses providing the hire of court facilities only, such as squash, basketball, or indoor soccer courts
  • martial arts, dancing or ballet school for performance training in a discipline
  • a swimming facility that provides a swimming pool only and no other fitness services.
