Inquiry Agent Licence - Western Australia

Description

You will require this licence if you intend to act as an inquiry agent. An inquiry agent is a person who advertises or supplies the services of investigators. An investigator is someone who conducts for remuneration investigations into the conduct of individuals or organisations. This includes surveillance activities, and investigations into missing persons.

Please be aware that a separate licence is required to actually work as an investigator.

If you are an interstate visitor and hold an equivalent licence in your home state or territory, you may apply for a temporary licence of up to one year. Please consult the Contact Officer for more information.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must:

  • be over the age of 18 years
  • provide two personal character references
  • be deemed to be a fit and proper person of good character
  • provide evidence that you have sufficient financial resources to meet your financial obligations
  • obtain a letter from the company, partnership or business to receive the licence, stating the intention to provide investigation services and giving you the authority to be the inquiry agent (where relevant)
  • undertake a pre-licence examination
  • agree to the Security Industry Code of Conduct
  • complete the required forms
  • pay the prescribed fees.

You may be required to give your fingerprints and palm prints.

You must submit your application form in person.. Do not sign your form until you present it to the licensing service.

Approval time

New applications will be processed in 30 working days. Renewals and endorsements will be processed in 20 working days.
