You will need this licence if you intend to operate premises that are prescribed by legislation to have significant risk to cause emissions of noise, odour or electromagnetic radiation, or discharge waste. Please see Schedule 1, Part 1 of the Environmental Protection Regulations 1987 for a complete list of prescribed premises.
The types of prescribed premises that need this licence include premises used for:
- intensive livestock housing
- mineral and resource extraction
- refining
- manufacturing
- processing of food, animal and plant matter or products
- waste management, collection, or disposal
- storage or warehousing of large quantities of chemicals
- energy generation.
This licence only authorises ongoing operation of the premises. Prior construction works at a premises may need Works Approval. If your premises has a low risk of emissions, it may be prescribed under Schedule 1, Part 2, and you may need to apply for Premises Registration instead.
