You will require this licence if you intend to construct a retaining wall on a waterway in a declared management area. A waterway includes any rivers, inlets and estuaries, as well as any artificial canal, canal system, lake, lagoon or harbour connected to a waterway. There are five declared management areas in Western Australia:
- Albany waterways
- Avon River
- Wilson Inlet
- Peel-Harvey estuaries
- Leschenault Inlet.
Some activities are prohibited in waterway management areas. You will need to consult the Department if you plan to conduct any of the following activities:
- disturbing the waterbed, banks or foreshore
- putting any matter into a body of water
- launching a boat or other craft from a trailer
- discharging oil into water
- using aircraft on water.
