You may need this licence if you intend to operate a kennel or keep more than the prescribed number of dogs on your premises. The prescribed number of dogs will differ between councils.

Some councils will offer a separate application for keeping more than the prescribed number of dogs on your property. This application is usually for non-commercial purposes.

Your premises will be inspected by the council ranger to determine if it is suitable for the proposed purpose.

  • written evidence regarding who will have charge of the dogs which reside on the premises
  • written acknowledgement that the applicant has read and agrees with any relevant code of practice relating to the keeping of dogs
