Licence to Keep a Kennel Establishment - Shire of Chittering - Western Australia

Description

You may need this licence if you intend to operate a kennel or keep more than the prescribed number of dogs on your premises. The prescribed number of dogs will differ between councils.

Some councils will offer a separate application for keeping more than the prescribed number of dogs on your property. This application is usually for non-commercial purposes.

Your premises will be inspected by the council ranger to determine if it is suitable for the proposed purpose.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must:

  • provide plans and specifications of the kennel establishment, including a site plan
  • advertise your proposed kennel as required in the Dogs Local Law
  • provide written evidence that you or another person who will have the charge of the dogs, will reside on the premises or, in the opinion of the local government, sufficiently close to the premises to control the dogs and ensure their health and welfare
  • provide written acknowledgement that the applicant that you have read and agree to comply with any code of practice relating to the keeping of dogs nominated by the local government
  • provide any other information required by the council
  • submit the relevant form
  • pay the required fee.

Your application will not be approved unless a kennel establishment is permitted under the town planning scheme.
