You will require this licence if you intend to place obstructions or building material on a thoroughfare or verge. A public thoroughfare is any street, way or other public place. The verge is any area beside the thoroughfare but does not include any footpath.
Obstructions and building material include, but are not limited to, cranes, hoists, hoardings, fences, building materials or waste, and bulk storage containers. All obstructions must be placed within protective barriers for public safety. Sufficient light must also be provided at night to prevent accidents.
Any damage to a public thoroughfare due to the placement of obstructions must be repaired to the satisfaction of the local government. The Council requires that a deposit be paid that will be used if such repairs are not made to the required standards.
Please consult the Contact Officer for more information.
