You will need this licence if you intend to undertake any activity which will result in taking water from any surface water or groundwater source. Surface water includes watercourses, wetlands or catchment areas. Groundwater includes wells and artesian bores.
There are two types of licence:
- 5C licence - groundwater
- 5C licence - surface water.
You will need a groundwater licence if you intend to take water from a well or artesian bore, or do any other activity that utilises groundwater on a property that is located within a proclaimed groundwater area.
You will need a surface water licence if you intend to undertake any activity which needs the pumping or diverting of water from a proclaimed watercourse, wetland or catchment area.
New licences will only be issued where the allocation limit has not been reached.
It is recommended that you contact the Department to discuss your proposed development or water needs.
