Description

You will need this certificate if you are a master of a vessel which is needed to carry a pilot, but you intend to operate without a licensed pilot. Your certificate will specify the particular port or ports within which you are able to act as a pilot.

To be eligible for this exemption you must:

  • be a permanent resident of Australia
  • have extensive knowledge of a particular port
  • undertake a practical examination
  • submit a certificate of health.

The practical examination will cover:

  • coastal conditions and navigational hazards at the subject port
  • creating nautical charts for the subject port
  • traffic, communications and other local rules for the subject port
  • relevant laws and regulations.
