Description

You will need this licence if you intend to use premises as a morgue. A morgue is a building used to temporarily keep bodies of the dead for lawful purposes including viewing, examination and identification prior to before burial or cremation.

Exemptions

This licence does not include morgues in public hospitals, council or police buildings.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must ensure that

  • Your premises is capable of storing corpses at a temperature not exceeding zero degrees;
  • The walls of your premises are constructed of stone, or brickwork or other approved material;
  • The interior surface of all walls is covered with glazed tiles, or is rendered so as to be non-absorbent and washable;
  • All floor are constructed of some impervious material, having a fall to an outlet discharging over a trapped gully; and
  • Your premises are adequately ventilated.
