Description

You may require this approval if you intend to conduct exploratory drilling for petroleum or geothermal energy resources in Western Australia.

Petroleum is any naturally occurring hydrocarbon or mixture of hydrocarbons, including oil and gas. Geothermal energy is thermal energy that results from natural geological processes and is contained in geothermal energy resources.

This approval gives you exclusive rights to the exploration of petroleum or geothermal energy resources from the area covered in the approval. This is an alternative to a petroleum exploration permit.

Please note that you can only apply for this approval in response to an invitation from the Agency in respect of a particular block or blocks of territory. Invitations will be published in the government gazettes.
