You may need to follow this Code of Conduct if you are either:

  • an owner driver
  • a person or company that hires an owner driver.

An owner-driver is someone who owns the vehicle they use for carrying out their work as a driver.

This Code applies to all owner-driver contracts and agreements. It deals primarily with standards of conduct during negotiations, penalty clauses, rates of interest, deductions from payments and record keeping requirements. It also empowers the Road Freight Transport Industry Council to develop and publish Guideline Rates for use by the industry.
