Permit / Endorsement to Carry a Weapon - Western Australia

Description

You will need an endorsement to carry a baton or firearm as a licensed security officer. You will need a permit to carry a firearm as a licensed security officer for a specific period of time.

You may apply for the endorsement either at the same time as you apply for a security officer licence or separately. You may be endorsed for either firearms, batons, or both.

Security officers are prohibited from carrying any weapons without an endorsement.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for a firearm endorsement you must:

  • be a licensed security officer
  • complete a firearm training course (within the previous six months) with an approved registered training organisation and obtain a firearm training endorsement certificate
  • provide a letter of intent from a security agent who holds a corporate firearm licence, stating that you are required to carry a firearm as part of your security officer duties
  • provide a medical certificate (less than one month old) stating that you are physically and psychologically fit to use and carry firearms.

To be eligible for a baton endorsement you must:

  • be a licensed security officer
  • have completed a baton training course (within the previous six months) with an approved registered training organisation
  • obtain a baton training endorsement certificate.

To be eligible for a firearm permit you must:

  • be a licensed security officer
  • have a firearm endorsement.

You may need to have your fingerprints and palm prints recorded.
