Permit to Erect an Electrified, Barbed Wire or Razor Wire Fence - Shire of Toodyay - Western Australia

Description

You will require the written approval of the Building Surveyor if you are an owner or occupier of a residential lot or a commercial lot and you intend to erect or retain any barbed wire or other material with spiked or jagged protections.

You will require a licence if you intend to have and use an electric fence, or a razor wire fence, on a lot other than a rural lot.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for a permit to have and use an electrified fence you must ensure that:

  • Your lot does not abut a residential lot;
  • The fence complies with Joint Australian New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 3016:1994; and
  • The fence can be rendered inoperable during the hours of business operations, if any on the lot where it is erected.

To be eligible for a permit to have a fence constructed wholly or party of razor wire you must ensure that:

  • Your fence is not within 3m of the boundary of the lot; and
  • Any razor wire used is between 2000mm and 2400mm above the ground level.
