Production Licence - Western Australia


You will need this licence if you intend to produce petroleum or geothermal energy.

Petroleum includes gas, oil and any other naturally occurring hydrocarbon. Geothermal energy is thermal energy that results from natural geological processes and is contained in geothermal energy resources.

Service type


A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must:

  • hold an exploration permit, drilling reservation or retention lease
  • have made a commercial discovery of petroleum or geothermal energy or have determined the resource is now commercially viable.


21 years, but may be renewed at any time for further periods.
