Registration of Pharmacy Premises - Western Australia

Description

You will need this registration if you intend to operate a pharmacy business at premises in Western Australia. A pharmacy business is a business that provides pharmaceutical services and goods. This registration is not needed for a pharmacy operated in a public hospital.

You will need written approval from the Board if you intend to:

  • make significant alterations to your pharmacy premises
  • relocate your pharmacy
  • change the ownership of your pharmacy.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this registration you must:

  • be a pharmacist or friendly society
  • own, or intend to own, a proprietary interest in the pharmacy business you intend to register
  • own, or hold an interest, in no more than three other pharmacy businesses.

Your premises must:

  • be well lit, air-conditioned and kept clean and in good repair
  • have at least one door allowing direct access to members of the public from a street or thoroughfare
  • have no direct access to any adjoining premises.

Ongoing eligibility requirements

You will need to maintain records of all prescriptions dispensed from your pharmacy.

Application process

Apply

To obtain your registration you must:

  • complete and submit your application form electronically
  • provide any required information or documentation, including the names and contact details of all persons with an interest in the proposed pharmacy business, and copies of any relevant sale agreement, partnership agreement, lease, or security interest
  • provide plans and specifications of the premises sufficient to show that the premises meet relevant requirements for the competent and safe practice of pharmacy, including demonstrating that the premises are not in, or accessible via, a supermarket
  • provide any other information outlined by the Board
  • pay the prescribed fee.

Approval time

All applications must be received at least 20 working days prior to a Board meeting.
