You will need this registration if you intend to operate premises that manufacture, use, or store a radioactive substance.
A radioactive substance is any article that has been manufactured or subjected to any artificial treatment or process that contains more than the maximum prescribed concentration of any radioactive element.
All non-exempt radioactive substances and the premises where those substances are manufactured, used, stored or otherwise dealt with (including dealing with radioactive waste) must be registered. However, premises do not have to be registered if the radioactive substance is only stored there for less than 24 hours, in transit between two other locations and packages containing radioactive substances are kept under the control of a person who holds a licence for the storage or transport of radioactive substances and in a part of the premises to which the public does not have access.
