Security Bodyguard Licence - Western Australia

Description

You will need this licence to act as a security bodyguard. A security bodyguard is someone who is paid to escort another person as a guard or protector.

You may only work as a licensed security bodyguard if you are employed by a licensed security agent, unless you are a sole-trader, in which case you will need a security agent Licence. You must apply for the agent's licence separately.

You may be able to apply for a temporary licence of up to one year if you are an interstate visitor and hold an equivalent licence in your home state or territory.

Security bodyguards are prohibited from carrying weapons.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must:

  • be 18 years of age or older
  • be a fit and proper person
  • have a current first aid certificate
  • have evidence of your completion of relevant certificates with an approved training provider.

You may need to have your fingerprints and palm prints recorded.

Duration

Licences are initially issued for one or three years. Licences are renewed for three years thereafter.

Application process

Apply

You must submit your application form in person. Do not sign your form until you present it to Licensing agency.

In addition to your completed application form you must provide:

  • provide 100 points of identification
  • two character references
  • four passport sized photos
  • overseas police clearance (if you have not been an Australian resident for the last 5 years).

Approval time

New applications will be processed in 30 working days. Renewals and endorsements will be processed in 20 working days.
