Clearing Permit - Western Australia

Description

You will require this permit if you intend to clear native vegetation. Clearing includes killing, removing, severing or ringbarking of trunks or stems, or doing any other substantial damage to native vegetation in an area. It also includes the draining or flooding of land, the burning of vegetation and the grazing of stock.

There are two types of clearing permit:

  • Area permits: required if you intend to clear a particular area of native vegetation. You can apply for this permit if you are the owner of the land or if you have written authority to do the clearing on behalf of the owner of the land.
  • Purpose permits: required if you intend to clear different areas from time to time for a specified purpose. This is required for programs of clearing, such as ongoing maintenance projects. In general, only utilities and local governments require this type of permit.

This permit may not be required for certain types of prescribed clearing, such as clearing for fire hazard reduction, to construct a building, clearing along a fence line and clearing for walking tracks.

Please consult the Contact Officer for information on whether a permit is required.
