Explosives Driver's Licence - Western Australia

Description

You will require this licence if you intend to drive a road vehicle transporting an authorised explosive on a public road.

You will not require this licence if the explosive is part of a Category 1 load of explosives and you hold an explosives transport licence, or are a secure employee of a person who holds an explosives transport licence. You will also not require this licence to transport any of the following explosives:

  • sparklers
  • cartridges for safety devices or nail guns
  • less than 50 kilograms of emergency devices
  • less than 250 kilograms of emergency devices
  • less than 50 kilograms of ammunition propellant or less than 4 kilograms of black powder.

Please note that limited amounts of explosives may be transported under a shotfiring, pyrotechnics, or fireworks licence.

To be eligible for this licence you must:

  • be at least 21 years of age
  • demonstrate competency in the activities required of the licence
  • have passed an approved driver training course
  • be assessed as medically fit to drive an explosives vehicle within the past 6 months
  • possess a current Western Australian Dangerous Goods Security Card
  • hold a current driver's licence
  • have a satisfactory driving history
  • submit the required forms
  • pay the required fees.
