Underground Supervisor's Certificate of Competency - Western Australia

Description

You will require this certificate of competency if you intend to be the underground manager or deputy underground manager of a mine employing people underground. An underground supervisor has the immediate direction and control of the underground operations of a mine.

If your mine has 25 or more people working underground you will instead need a First Class Mine Manager's Certificate of Competency.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for an underground supervisor's certificate you must:

  • be at least 23 years of age
  • hold a Degree, Diploma or Associate Diploma in Mining Engineering from a recognised University, School of Mines or Institute of Technology
  • have passed the mining practice and mining law examinations set by the Agency
  • have general experience in underground mining and have been employed for not less than 5 years underground (or 2 years if a graduate)
  • has satisfied any other experience requirements set by the Agency
  • be of good character
  • have received satisfactory training in first aid
  • submit the required form
  • pay the required fee.
