Works Approval - Western Australia

Description

You may require this approval if you intend to undertake an activity which is likely to cause pollution or harm to the environment.

Certain premises where emissions are produced, which may harm the environment are classified as prescribed premises. Prescribed premises must be registered. If you undertake any works on a premises which may cause the premises to become prescribed premises you will require a works approval.

You may also require a works approval if you intend to undertake work that may alter the level of type of emissions on a registered prescribed premises, or alter the operation of the premises.

A works approval is not required:

  • where the proposed work is covered by an existing works approval, licence, closure notice, or environmental protection notice
  • where the proposed work is only in the course of, and for the purpose of, general maintenance required to maintain efficient operation of any pollution control equipment or procedure.

However, emissions during and subsequent to such maintenance must comply with licence requirements.

To be eligible for this approval, you must:

  • complete the required forms
  • provide any information and documentation required by the Agency, including information on the aspects of the proposal which cause or influence the potential for causing emissions to the environment
  • pay any required fees.

Duration

Works approvals are issued for 3 years. Works approvals can be amended, suspended or revoked at any time.
