Approval of Facility to Administer Electro Convulsive Therapy - New South Wales

Service summary

You will require this approval if you intend to perform electro convulsive therapy (ECT) to a person at a place other than a mental health facility. ECT is only permitted at a licensed mental health facility or other health facility approved by the Agency.

ECT may only be performed by a medical practitioner. Two medical practitioners must be present when the ECT is performed, one of whom must be experienced in the performance of ECT. Further restrictions apply to the circumstances where ECT can be performed. Please consult the Contact Officer for more information.
