You will require this declaration if you intend to operate a hospital where patients may claim expenses from the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme, Medicare Benefits Scheme or private health insurers.
You are required to apply to the Minister to make a declaration in regard to your hospital in the following circumstances:
- commencement of a new facility
- amalgamation of existing hospitals.
Hospitals must also meet the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards. This process is known as accreditation. The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (ACSQHC) has developed resources to assist health service organisations to align with the NSQHS Standards.
