Launch Permit - Australian Government

Description

You will require this permit if you intend to launch a space object from Australia.

A space object is:

  • an object (or any part of that object) which is to go into or come back from an area beyond the distance of 100 km above mean sea level
  • any part of that object, even if that part is to go only some of the way towards or back from an area beyond the distance of 100 km above mean sea level.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this permit, you must demonstrate:

  • competence to carry out the launch
  • environmental approval and an adequate environmental plan
  • insurance and financial coverage 
  • safety of design, construction, and operation (including flight path) aligning with Flight Safety Code
  • no interference with Australia’s security, defence, or international relations.
  • whether your object is or contains a nuclear weapon or weapon of mass destruction 
  • risk hazard analysis aligning with the Flight Safety Code.
