Offshore Minerals Mining Licence - Australian Government

Description

You will require this licence to undertake offshore commercial mineral extraction operations. It authorises exploration and full recovery of minerals from the area covered by the licence.

A mining licence may be granted over one or more of the following:

  • a vacant standard block
  • certain blocks that are not vacant
  • a tender block.

You may apply for 2 or more mining licences over different parts of the licence area.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must:

  • specify the blocks for which the application is made
  • specify the activities you intend to carry out on the blocks covered by the application
  • provide details of the amount of money you intend to spend on those activities
  • outline the technical qualifications of yourself and your employees who are likely to be involved in activities authorised by the licence
  • provide details of the technical advice and financial resources available to you
  • specify, if the licence is to be held by more than one person, the share of the licence that each prospective holder will hold
  • provide maps that relate to the blocks and comply with relevant guidelines.

You must also hold an offshore minerals Exploration Licence or Retention Licence over the same area sought for the licence.

The group of blocks you are applying for must form a discrete area, not more than 20 blocks.

Valid for up to 21 years. Licences may be renewed.
