You will need this permit if you intend to install a submarine cable inside a protection zone, or both inside a protection zone and in other Australian waters.
A Protection Zone permit (PZ) is required for proposed installations within areas that have been declared as protection zones. From the low-water mark to a water depth of 2000 metres is considered a protection zone. If you install any part of the cable outside of a protection zone then you will be required to also apply for a separate permit called a Non-Protection Zone permit.
You may require separate regulatory approvals for installations in the coastal waters of a state or the Northern Territory that are outside a protection zone.
