You will require this licence if you operate a vessel carrying and processing marine species caught by licensed fishing vessels operating within the protected zone. The protected zone is the area, commonly referred to as Torres Strait, lying between mainland Papua New Guinea and Australia.
Marine species covered include:
- Tropical Rock Lobster
- Spanish Mackerel
- Pearl Shell
- Prawn
- Net
- Sea Cucumbers
- Trochus
- Crab
- Fin Fish
- All sub species.
There are three different licence classes available:
- a processor-carrier boat licence class A is required to allow a primary boat to process and carry product taken by its associated tender boats
- a carrier boat licence class B allows the identified boat to carry products taken by other licensed operations, but does not allow the product to be processed while aboard
- a processor-carrier boat licence class C allows the identified boat to process and carry product taken by other licensed operations.
