You will need this accreditation if you intend to act as a Consulting Radiation Expert (CRE). A CRE assesses the activities of Radiation Management Licence holders to ensure they are compliant with the conditions of their licences. This accreditation will allow you to:
- provide advice relating to the design of premises in relation to radiation safety requirements
- assess plans for premises on which regulated radioactive material is kept or used
- assess regulated radioactive material and the premises at which it is kept or used
- assess the integrity of any shielding of premises at which regulated radioactive material is kept or used.
The agency is currently issuing accreditations for CRE's to assess diagnostic imaging apparatus and fixed radiation gauges.
Depending on your qualifications and the conditions of accreditation, you may be accredited to assess mammography, general diagnostic or dental apparatus. General diagnostic imaging accreditation includes medical, veterinary and chiropractic radiography, fluoroscopy, and computed tomography and bone mineral densitometry.
