Asbestos Removal Licence - New South Wales

Description

You will need this licence if you intend to carry out the removal of asbestos or asbestos-containing materials. Asbestos is a naturally occurring silicate mineral made up of tiny fibres. When distributed, it can produce a dust containing asbestos fibres that, when breathed in, can cause a range of health issues.

There are two types of asbestos removal licence:

  • Class A authorises the removal of friable asbestos, non-friable asbestos and asbestos contaminated dust debris (ACD). There is a conditional Class A licence that authorises the removal of only fire doors and safes containing friable asbestos.
  • Class B allows you to remove non-friable (bonded) asbestos, like fibro sheets. You can only remove the asbestos contaminated dust or debris (ACD) associated with the removal of non-friable asbestos. Please note that a class B licence is required for removal of more than 10sqm of non-friable asbestos or ACM.

Please be aware that you can only apply for this licence if you are a person who conducts (or proposes to conduct) a business or undertaking.
