Public Passenger Vehicle Driver Authority - New South Wales

Description

You will need this authority if you intend to drive a public passenger vehicle, other than a ferry. A public passenger vehicle is a bus or other motor vehicle that carries passengers along a road or transitway in return for a fee.

Public passenger vehicle drivers must comply with a number of general obligations specified in the regulations, including but not limited to:

  • to not eat or drink in the vehicle
  • to ensure vehicles are clean
  • to behave in an orderly manner
  • to drive vehicles carefully
  • to undertake relevant training courses as specified by the agency.

Please be aware that further accreditation is required if you intend to operate a public passenger service.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this authority, you must:

  • hold a current Australian driver license
  • be at least 20 years of age
  • have held a full (unrestricted) Australian driver licence for more than 12 months in the last two years,

or

  • be at least 25 years old
  • hold a relevant Australian drivers licence
  • have held an unrestricted Australian drivers licence or recognised overseas driver licence for a period of at least 3 years during the 4 years immediately preceding your application

You must also:

  • have passed a medical examination as specified by the agency
  • be able to lawfully work in Australia
  • be a fit and proper person
  • have sufficient responsibility to drive the relevant vehicle according to law and custom.
