Retail Supplier's Licence (Water) - New South Wales


You will need this licence to supply water (potable or non-potable) or provide sewerage services by means of water industry infrastructure (e.g. supply drinking water to customers).

Water industry infrastructure is used for the production, treatment, filtration, storage, conveyance or reticulation of water or sewerage.

You are encouraged to discuss your licence application with the Agency prior to formally submitting your application.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

Before this licence can be granted, the Agency must be satisfied that your corporation has the capacity to carry out the activities that the licence would authorise, in a manner that does not present a significant risk or harm to the environment.



Licence remains in force unless suspended, cancelled or revoked.

Additional information

Please be aware that If your application is approved, you are required to belong to an approved external ombudsman scheme to deal with disputes and complaints involving small retail customers. You will also be required to implement any relevant government policy with respect to social programs to ensure your services are available to a range of people. For example: available to people suffering financial hardship or living in remote areas.
