You will need this licence if you have a mining operator and intend to carry out any mining activity that causes substantial environmental disturbance of the mining site.
This licence is a tiered, risk-based framework to support exploration, extractive and mining operations for minerals and extractive minerals. Each licence category is based on the risk and impact of your intended mining activity on the environment:
- Standard condition licence - for mining activities with a low risk to the environment and where the operator can meet all risk criteria and standard conditions
- Modified condition licence - for mining activities with a low to medium risk to the environment and where the operator can meet the risk criteria, but needs to modify the standard conditions
- Tailored condition licence - for mining activities with a high risk to the environment and where the operator cannot meet the risk criteria or standard conditions and needs site-specific conditions.
If no risk criteria are declared for your activity, you should apply for a tailored condition licence.
Information on risk criteria and standard conditions of exploration or extractive operations can be found in the resources attached.
