Permit to Conduct a Trade Lottery - Northern Territory

Description

You will need this approval if you are an approved association or business and you intend to conduct a trade lottery with prizes valued at over $5,000. A trade lottery is a game of chance conducted for promotional purposes and can involve elements of chance and skill.

You do not need a permit for trade lotteries which have prizes to the value of $5,000 or less.

If you're an interstate business or association that has a lottery permit in another state or territory, you can also run the lottery in the NT without a local permit.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this permit, you must be an approved association or Northern Territory business and provide details of:

  • the name of the person proposing to conduct the trade lottery
  • the name and address of the trade or business that the lottery is promoting
  • the rule of the lottery, the manner in which tickets are issued and the method of determining winners
  • the date, time and place of the draw
  • a description and the value of each prize offered
  • the method of notifying winners and publishing results.

You must also provide copies of your promotional material and lottery tickets together with your application.
