Permit to Run a Minor or Major Lottery - Northern Territory

Description

You will need this permit if you are an approved association and you intend to conduct a lottery with ticket sales or entry fees totaling more than $5,000. There are two categories of permit:

  • minor lottery - the total value of tickets of entry fees is between $5,001 and $20,0000
  • major lottery - the total value of tickets is more than $20,000.

All permits will be subject to strict conditions as listed on the application form.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this permit, you must be an approved association or have obtained the express approval of the Minister. You must also provide details of:

  • tickets, ticket price, rules and conditions
  • how the lottery will be drawn
  • where and how prizes will be awarded
  • the prizes, tickets and promotional material.

Permit holders must also provide all financial records related to the lottery within two months after the draw. Financial records for minor lotteries must be kept for a period of two years and major lotteries, a period of seven years.
