Adoption Counsellor Approval - Victoria


You will need this approval if you intend to work with clients involved in adoption services. Adoption counsellors typically work with non-profit adoption agencies to offer advice, procedural guidance, and assessment throughout the adoption process, for families both offering and wanting children. They may also offer post-adoptive services and assistance.

The natural parents of a child must receive counselling from an approved counsellor before consenting to the adoption of the child.

To be eligible for this approval you must either be:

  • an officer or employee of the Department
  • employed by an approved agency
  • a person who, in the opinion of the Agency, has appropriate qualifications and experience to fulfil this role.
