Driving Instructor Authority - Victoria

Description

You will require this authorisation if you intend to teach unlicensed people to drive motor vehicles for financial gain or in the course of any trade or business. It does not authorise you to teach people to drive a motorcycle, a vehicle with a gross mass of more than 4.5 tonnes, or a vehicle with a seating capacity of more than twelve adults including the driver.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

The applicant must:

  • complete the required application form
  • hold a full (non-probationary) current motor car driver licence
  • submit an informed consent form
  • have successfully completed a Certificate IV in Transport and Logistics (Road Transport - Driving Instruction) (TL141207)
  • pass a medical examination and eyesight test
  • demonstrate that you are a fit and proper person in accordance with criminal and/or driving criteria. Criminal offences and serious or frequent driving offences may exclude an applicant from being a Driving Instructor Authority holde
  • pay all required fees.

A Police Check, eyesight test and medical examination needs to be conducted and the results submitted with the completed application form, along with evidence of successful completion of Certificate IV course.

Lodgement process

  • 2 passport-sized photographs;
  • Evidence of successful completion of Certificate IV course;
  • 'Victoria Police Certificate' for completed Police Check; and
  • Endorsement from Medical Practitioner.
