Taxi-Cab Licence - New South Wales

Service summary

You will require this licence if you intend to use a motor vehicle as a taxi in New South Wales. Please be aware that holding this licence does not mean you must own or operate a taxi. You may lease the use of your licence to another operator to run the business.

There are three types of taxi licences that can be obtained:

  • Ordinary taxi licence;
  • Short-term taxi licence; or
  • Wheelchair accessible taxi-cab (WAT) licence.

Please note that conditions can be placed on licences (for example: the licensee may only be able to operate in a specified area).
