Registration as a LEAP Provider for Hunters - New South Wales

Description

You may require this approval if you intend to become a learning, education and accreditation program (LEAP) provider for hunters.

Clubs, associations and individuals can apply to be accredited to deliver courses under the hunter LEAP, such as the R-Licence accreditation course.

LEAP provides best practice education and training for hunters to ensure they meet the legislative requirements for game licensing, animal welfare and hunter safety standards in NSW. The program is designed to assist hunters acquire the appropriate qualifications for a restricted game hunting licence.

All training courses for hunters must be approved. If there is a course approved for a particular class and type of licence, a person is not eligible to be granted a licence of that class and type unless the person has successful completed the course.

Please be aware that all trainers that are responsible for the delivery and assessment of LEAP courses are also required to be accredited.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

Hunter LEAP providers can be either:

  • an approved hunting organisation (AHO)
  • a hunting industry business.

The criteria for accreditation as a hunter LEAP trainer are:

  • have a current NSW restricted game hunting licence (R-Licence) or have certification of completion of the mandatory component of the R-Licence assessment course
  • be of good character with no disciplinary action taken against your hunting activities, behaviour or conduct
  • hold a working with children check and pass a criminal history check (conducted by the Agency)
  • be an approved firearms safety trainer (if you intend to deliver firearms licence safety training courses).
