Initial applications for approval of a location will need an inspection by the Regional Firearms Officer, or their delegate, to ensure that the firearms can be carried safely at the location.
In order to apply for a populous place permit (licensed firearms dealer), the following requirements must be met:
- the applicant must be a licensed firearm dealer
- the dealer must document all safety procedures and provide a copy of safety procedures to Victoria Police
- the dealer must have public liability insurance or the activity covered by other public liability insurance held by the sponsor / organiser
- all participants must hold a current firearm licence.
In order to apply for a populous place permit (performing arts and re-enactment), the following requirements must be met:
- the applicant must be a licensed firearm holder
- the re-enactment organisation / group must document all safety procedures and provide a copy of safety procedures to Victoria Police
- the re-enactment organisation / group must have public liability insurance for this activity or the activity should be covered by other public liability insurance held by the sponsor / organiser
- all persons possessing firearms for this activity should hold a current firearms licence in the appropriate category (endorsed for performing arts and historical re-enactment).
In order to apply for a populous place permit (vermin control), the following requirements must be met:
- the applicant must be a licensed firearm holder
- the applicant applying must document all safety procedures and provide a copy of safety procedures to Victoria Police
- the licence holder must have public liability insurance for this activity or the activity should be covered by other public liability insurance held by the client
- all persons possessing firearms for this activity should be the holder of a current firearms licence in the appropriate category and have an endorsement for vermin control on their licence.
