  • thoroughfares
  • a place open to or used by the public for passage with vehicles.

The majority of public place permits are issued for vermin control, performing arts or historical re-enactment activities.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this permit, you will need:

  • public liability insurance
  • level 1 First Aid qualification
  • a valid licence for the relevant firearm category
  • to provide evidence of a genuine reason.

If you require a permit for use or carriage of a firearm in an enclosed area, genuine reasons may be:

  • professional hunter
  • (professional business) vermin (pest) controller
  • performing arts and re-enactment groups
  • feral bird control
  • veterinary purposes
  • zoo employees

If you require a permit for use or carriage of a firearm in an open area (eg. farmland or football ground), genuine reasons may be:

  • primary production
  • hunting
  • sport / target.
